Weeknotes - W42/2026 (No.8)

posted on:

Every friday I look at the week's document thinking: This week I have almost nothing to say. And then the page fills up over the weekend just like that.

Goings on πŸšΆβ€β™€οΈβ€βž‘οΈ

  • The new semester of Italian class has already started last week, but I didn't go. (It was the day I got wet in the rain.) This week however I went and so the semester has officially started for me as well. Over the summer I forgot a lot and I felt like an idiot trying to speak coherent Italian but failing. But what else is new. We are now slowly transitioning from level A2 to B1 and I both can't wait to learn new things and have huge respect for that step. Grammer is fucking hard, people.
  • I was invited to a party, but didn't go. After a full week with lots of people contact, I didn't want to spend half a Saturday with even more people. I was drained already. So I stayed at home and wrote a blog article. LOL I also actually did some housework. Which felt really good. I should do that more often. The household part, not necessarily the not going to a party part. LOL
  • I deleted a game from my phone that was taking up too much time. This game was also so pointless, and annoying. I wanted it to be something that it was absolutely not. I feel like I have entered the next phase in my trying to get my digital life sorted. E.g. I've been thinking about what to do with my current phone once I've got a new one (not acute yet, but that time will come). I can use an iPhone without a sim card, right? Because I was hoping to maybe turn it into a music player. I can't get the software for my old Creative Zen Mozaic to run on my Fedora computer. (I am really bad with virtual machines and nothing works and maybe that's just how it is. I simply have no clue about stuff like that.) But I still want a dedicated device for music and podcast playing that is separate from my phone.
  • I wrote about the Stickers on my laptop, which was a reply to Joel's post of the same topic
  • I realised that the link to my rss feed at the top of all blog articles of the recent months (since I added the icon) was broken. Why did no one tell me it was leading to no-where? It's pointing to the right document now.

Media πŸ“šπŸŽžοΈπŸŽ§

  • The Great DS9 re-watch got me to season 6, episode 17 Wrongs Darker Than Death or Night, which was a Kira episode. Dukat is such a great hateable villain. He's disgusting.
  • Joel convinced me to continue with the audio drama Wolf 359. And so I listened to season 2. Which was indeed less of what I find super boring and more of what is interesting. Cliffhanger at the end is mean, so I have to listen to season 3, too.
  • I did some actual reading again after weeks. I picked up Clodia of Rome again. It's really good so far.

The Web πŸ’»

  • Via Andreas' most recent Linkdump I learned of Book Corners, a site that collects neighbourhood libraries/ community bookcases around the world. I was delighted to see that the two in my village are on the map already. But the entries could be improved, and I may acutally do that. (Links)
  • Every once in a while I stumble upon Noodlist, a site all about instant ramen. You can submit reviews, browse the database, and often watch a video on how to prepare the respective meal. It's one of those amazing things that are the reason why I love the web. Created by JetGirlArt.
  • JetGirlArt wrote The customer doesn't exist. There she's talking about how companies seem to not be interested in normal customers anymore by producing high end products costing thousands of money units. Another one of those is housing: There are houses built, yes, but they are all for luxury apartments. How should normal people, people with low salaries ever afford housing again when only luxury flats are built?
  • I came across Wouter of Brain Baking's article Transpareny metrics make moral decisions impossible. And while the topic of laptop metrics is nothing I understand, the problem is one elswhere as well. Just this week I told a group of people I don't have WhatsApp anymore and for the same reason do not buy at Amazon. One person replied that I consequently also shouldn't wear the brand of clothes I used to like. But what should I do? Throw them out now? That'd be nonsense. Also, this world is so fucked, it's impossible to only make moral decisions, no matter the field. In the end, and as a start, each one of us has to go after their own priorities and work from there.
  • Harley linked to this cool video about an aquarium build on a desk saying this might be my favourite video of the year and I can absolutely go along with that. Don't even skip the ad in the middle, it's cute.
