Weeknotes - W39/2026 (No.5)

This time with almsot a whole blog post embedded into it. And why not!? My weeknotes, my rules.

Goings on 🚶‍♀️‍➡️

  • The second work week after summer holidays is always the worst. I'm so tired! My flat looks like a garbage dump. I wake up, get ready, go to work, come home, vegetate, eat, vegetate some more, then I get ready for bed and sleep. Repeat.
  • I've been only getting very nice and positive reactions to my new haircut. Some pupils have even said I'm looking way better with short hair. Kids are cute. LOL
  • Right with the beginning of autumn the cold mornings are here, too. I took out my fingerless gloves and scarf - and needed them.
  • I made a batch of pumpkin pie spice to put into my coffee grounds in the morning - and forogt about it three mornings this week. Says a lot about my brain. Anyone interested in the recipe?
    Here it is

    All ingredients are bought powdered or I grind them freshly. They need to be dry! I put ca ¼-⅓ tsp into the filter with the ground coffee beans.

    • 2 tblsp cinnamon
    • 1 tsp cardamom
    • ½ tsp nutmeg
    • ½ tsp cloves
    • ½ tsp allspice
    • ginger to taste

  • Because I was so tired I didn't watch a lot of Raumpatrouille. Here are my fedi notes for episode 4 and episode 5.
  • Watched "Tomorrow's Enerprise", the season 4 finale of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds. This week's theme: core Star Trek.
    SPOILERS!!

    SCOTTY AND UHURA!!! SQUEEEEE!!! - Sorry not sorry. I mean look at them, they are so cute! Scotty is the cutest of all. - Celia Rose Gooding was fan-tast-tic! Fan-tas-tic!! She was Nichelle Nicols' Uhura. Incredible! Give her that Emmy! - Future Uhura and Chapel were amazing. - Future Kirk and Spock were very Kirk-y and Spock-y. - Future Ortegas was so cool! I hope that this will be her actual future, too. - And I really hope La'An's presumed possibly awful future will not be her actual future. It'd better! *shakes fist* - Time travel, space baby, drama and funny bits. That's Star Trek as it ever was. - Add to that great visuals: I love the overlays and split screens and the rewinding at the end. - The updated looks are fantastic too. - There was an actual fucking reason for Kirk to be in the episode for a change. (Just fyi: I like Paul Wesley's Kirk! I think he's great.) - Who else got prophets vibes with the space baby? - I hate to admit it, but I'm doing it anyway: With how this episode went I could for the first time imagine a Year One show. I still don't want it. Not ever. But here, for just a few moments, it looked as if it could have been good. (For just a few moments.)

    Season 4 musings

    I think I know what it is that's been bugging me (for lack of a better word) a bit about recent SNW: The lack of earnestness. And before you start yelling: I am not against comedy, or parody, or irony, or fun, or any other way to not be super duper deeply earnest. Goodness, imagine such a life! Also: I've been a fucking Trekkie for most of my life. I couldn't be one without loving all the silly stuff they've been doing since forever. (People who say something like "Star Trek has never been [like that]" have clearly never actually watched it. LOL Because Star Trek has always been [like that].) But it seems to me that all the absolutely interesting and great character development we were finally getting this season was put behind a gimmick.

    The stories of Spock (puppets), Pike (soap opera), and La'An (fairy tale) get a bit lost behind their respective gimmicky shell. I loved the puppets and the soap opera, I am a little bit meh about the fairy tale (though it looked gorgeous!), but I bet that without those... what's another word for gimmick here?... they could have been just as good. Not better, but just as good. And then I wonder what the reason for the, I'm going to say it, gimmick was in the first place. That you don't need a gimmick to tell a great story is proven by "Off-Hour" and "Tomorrow's Enterprise". While the first is a certain genre, and the latter does time travel, these aren't gimmicks in my view. They are core Star Trek.

    That said, I'm absolutely not hating it, infact I liked this season. I can absolutely very very well live with it. It's not important. It's a fucking tv show, not real life. (Don't @ me!) But I guess what I am trying to say is that I am missing this special Trek vibe that used to live between the wacky episodes. I want those to be the cool outliers, not the rule.

    But SNW is not that kind of Star Trek show. They are their own thing. Currently I'm thinking of it as an anthology show with the same actors and characters instead of a changing set of actors and characters. That has helped me to appreciate the show a lot more.

  • For the great Star Trek: Deep Space 9 re-watch I watched season 6, episode 14 "One Little Ship". It's a fun show. Loved the set with the isolinear chips. Reminded me of Tron, though it looked nothing like it, of course.
